The Swine....

I was with some mom friends recently and we were talking about actually being a little nervous about the swine flu this year. I'm normally not a germaphobe and my kids are rarely sick. I wash their hands, but do not own hand sanitizer and Mary started in the nursery at 4 weeks. I've always taken them to childcare at the gym, preschool, play group, church, etc...with little to no worry. Well, this week I got a pretty high fever, chills, sore throat, etc.. and I googled swine flu symptoms cause I feared the worst. I do not have it and felt better by the next day. However, the spread in our area is pretty scary. I know when it gets to be "flu" season a lot of schools will have to close and a few small children have died in TX. My family never mentions it being talked about much in GA and I don't hear my out of state friends really mentioning it. Most of the children who haved died have been hispanic and TX is about 50% hispanic so I don't know if that has anything to do with it? Anyways, I'm wondering if all my dear friends from NC, CO, FL, etc...are worried about the swine or do you hear it talked about much in your state?

Not much here in CO. They have even said that they won't be closing schools this year. All I have heard people talking about is not knowing if they will give their kids the swine flu vaccination b/c of it not being tested well enough. All of people here don't vaccinate at all though.

They've been talking about it a lot in AR. We talked about our procedures for it at BSF this year. I guess most people will probably get it.

we do have it talked about here. we actually had a friend that got it, but for some reason I'm not worried about it. That could very possibly change though, especially with flu season starting early this year.

It's on the news here but just as regula news. The girls got their regular flu shot/mist on Saturday and I have checked with our Dr's...and due to lack of testing they told me to pass on it. So we will just carry on as usual for now. The schools are really pushing the handwashing and sanitizer.

Yes, it's a big deal here. No huge outbreaks, but they are prepping everyone for staying home if you think you have symptoms or being wise about infecting other people. It does worry me because we are around so many students, who seem to be in the population of people who are getting it...makes me worry a little bit for Ava and will keep me from letting students touch her :) We are all three getting flu shots and swine flu shots when they are available.
